There are an awful lot of car dealers out there, in spite of all of the closings that the recent auto maker troubles have brought about. And while there are literally still tens of thousands of different places where you can buy a car in this country, there is a far smaller number of high end car dealers than there are if you want to buy something that is a little bit cheaper. After all, the upper crust is not like the rest of us, at least in the numbers of its constituency. If you have been looking into finding a new high end car dealer, you might not have as much success as if you are just looking for any set of wheels.
Keep in mind that high end car dealers may only need to make a small fraction of the number of sales that a lower tier car dealer would, in order to stay in business and keep their profit margins at an acceptable level. While everybody would naturally love to sell every vehicle on the lot for their sticker price every day, one would have to be insane to believe that such a feat would be anywhere near the realm of possibility. Dealing in high end cars is not like selling chintzy hoopties, if only for the demanding nature of the clinetele.
For a lot of people, just knowing that the car works and that it does not have any liens on it (or drugs hidden inside of it) is plenty of knowledge to have. But for the buyer of high end cars, that kind of thing is implied by definition. You do not sell someone a Ferrari which has problems, because those types of people don’t want a project car. Status symbols need to be ready to roll and ready to impress right now. They will never settle for anything less.
