Nobody ever wants to get into a car accident, but the truth is that if you drive a car or any other form of transportation, then you’re running the risk of getting into an accident each time you’re on the road. There are, however, some things you should do if you do get into an accident. The following are the steps you should take if you’re involved in a car accident.

Be Prepared

Always have your cell phone with you, a pen and paper for sharing information, your insurance information and a disposable camera for taking immediate pictures of the accident and any injuries.

Be Safe

If possible, move the cars involved in the accident to the side of the road. This is so that other cars can safely get around you. If you cannot move the cars without assistance, either stay in the car with the seatbelt fastened, or move well off to the side of the road, if you can safely do so.

Exchange Information

Information like name, phone numbers, insurance information, license plate numbers, extent of the damage and the model and make of the cars involved should all be exchanged so that claims can be properly made.

Make a Claim

Depending on the rules in your state, either file an accident report with the police department or file an insurance claim with your insurance carrier. You may need an online payday advance to pay any deductibles.

Of course, these steps are assuming there are no serious injuries. If you’re injured, stay in the car if you can’t move well, or move to the side of the road and call for help.
