Have you ever stood in your closet and felt like there was nothing to wear? Maybe it was just a mood you were in. Maybe it was because you have a closet full of individual garments that does NOT go with anything of your JR Dunn jewelry, designer shoes or anything else. If that is the case, it’s time to do some serious wardrobe planning.
Start your planning session by trying every single thing on that is in your closet. Look at it closely. Does it fit well? Do you feel comfortable in it? Is it frayed and worn? After you’ve tried it on (and if you are going to keep it), write it down on a piece of paper. If you are not going to keep it, set it aside so you can donate it to a thrift store.
After you have gone through all of your clothing and written down the articles you are going to keep, create a worksheet. On a piece of lined-paper, create three columns. At the top of the column on the left write ‘item.’ At the top of the middle column, write ‘spring/summer.’ At the top of the third column, write ‘fall/winter.’
Now looking at the sheet where you wrote down the items of clothing in your closet, transfer those items under the column marked ‘item.’ Then, place a check in the column for the season that you wear it in. When you are finished, study your worksheet. Determine where there are gaps. Do you need more casual winter clothes? Do you have too many t-shirts? Do you need a couple of new casual tops for work?
Your planning will not be finished in one hour. It possibly won’t be finished in one evening. But once it is done, you will be able to head out shopping with an exact idea of what you need to buy. And you’ll have the confidence that it will mix and match with other things in your closet!
